Help & install guide

After buying CaptionOx you receive two things by email: the installer download for your system — Windows: CaptionOx-Setup-1.0.0.exe; Mac: CaptionOx-Mac-Setup.pkg (pick the file for your Mac chip: Apple Silicon or Intel) — and your license key. Keep that email; the key is your proof of purchase.

Install on Windows

  1. Download the installer and double-click it.
  2. Accept the license agreement and click through the installer. No administrator password is needed.
  3. That's it — there is nothing else to install. Everything CaptionOx needs is included.

Install on a Mac

  1. Download the Mac installer for your chip — Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3/M4) or Intel. Not sure? Apple menu → About This Mac shows your chip.
  2. Double-click the .pkg file and follow the installer steps. Everything is placed in your own user folders.
  3. If macOS refuses to open it (“Apple cannot check it for malicious software” / “unidentified developer”): that is macOS Gatekeeper being careful with new software. Right-click (or Ctrl-click) the file → Open → Open again in the dialog. You only do this once.
  4. Alternative: the download also includes CaptionOx-Mac-Installer.zip. Unzip it, right-click Install-CaptionOx.command → Open, and it installs CaptionOx for you.

Activate

  1. Open Premiere Pro.
  2. Go to Window → Extensions → CaptionOx. The panel opens.
  3. Paste your license key and click Activate. (Activation needs the internet once; after that the panel works offline.)
  4. The panel footer will show “License: active”.

Your license covers 2 of your own computers. To move to a new computer, open the panel footer on the old one and click Deactivate first.

Your first captions (5 steps)

  1. Open a sequence in Premiere and add an empty video track on top — captions are placed there.
  2. In the panel, click Export Audio from Sequence. (If Premiere cannot export the audio, export a WAV by hand — File → Export → Media → format “Waveform Audio” — and pick the file with the file box in the panel.)
  3. Choose a model and language (leave language on Auto for mixed Hindi/English), pick a style preset, then click Generate Captions.
  4. Check the transcript in the panel. Wrong word? Edit the line's text and click Re-render Line.
  5. Click Add Captions to Timeline. Your captions appear on the top video track, each word highlighting as it is spoken. A plain captions.srt is also saved next to your project.

The first generation downloads a model — once

The very first time you generate captions, CaptionOx downloads the speech-recognition model once (about 150 MB for the Base model). After that one download, everything works fully offline — no internet needed, and your audio is never uploaded anywhere.

ModelDownload (once)Best for
Tiny~75 MBQuick tests only — rough spelling
Base~150 MBEveryday English videos (default)
Small~500 MBBetter accuracy, a bit slower
Medium~1.5 GBBest accuracy — recommended for Hindi/Hinglish

Hindi / Hinglish tip: mixed Hindi-English speech works best with the language set to Auto (or Hindi) and the Small or Medium model. The Tiny/Base models often mishear Hindi words.

Working offline

Activation checks in quietly from time to time, but CaptionOx is built for real editing conditions: if you are offline, the panel keeps working during a 7-day grace period and simply tries again later. Only a license that the store reports as refunded or disabled will stop working.

Troubleshooting

Panel not visible in PremiereRestart Premiere after installing, then check Window → Extensions → CaptionOx. Make sure your Premiere is 2021 or newer.
Mac: “unidentified developer” / Apple cannot open the installerRight-click (or Ctrl-click) the installer file → Open → Open. This is macOS Gatekeeper; you only do it once. Or use the .command installer from the Mac download zip, the same way.
Mac: installed, but the panel says “Setup problem”You may have downloaded the installer for the other chip (Apple Silicon vs Intel). Download the matching file for your Mac and install it over the old one.
Mac: nothing happens when I open the .command fileRight-click it → Open (double-click can be blocked by Gatekeeper). A small window opens and tells you when it is done.
“License key not recognised”Copy-paste the key from the purchase email exactly (no spaces at the ends), and make sure you are connected to the internet for the first activation.
“Already active on 2 computers”Open CaptionOx on one of the other computers and click Deactivate in the panel footer. No longer have that computer? Email support and we will reset it for you.
“Setup problem” message in the panelThe install is incomplete. Re-run the installer (it repairs in place), restart Premiere, and try again. Still stuck? Email support with a screenshot.
Captions are empty / “Export failed”Premiere could not export the sequence audio. Export a WAV manually (File → Export → Media → “Waveform Audio”) and pick it with the panel's file box.
Captions landed on the wrong trackCaptions always go on the top video track. Add an empty track on top before clicking “Add Captions to Timeline”.
Hindi words are wrongSwitch the model to Small or Medium and the language to Auto or Hindi, then generate again.
Generation is slowSmaller models are faster. On long videos, expect generation to take a fraction of the video's length on most computers — the first run also includes the one-time model download.
Words are slightly out of syncWord timing comes from the speech model; bigger models time words more precisely. You can nudge clips on the timeline like any other clip.

Uninstall

Windows: Settings → Apps → CaptionOx → Uninstall. Mac: drag the folder ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CEP/extensions/com.captionox.panel to the Trash (in Finder: Go → Go to Folder, paste the path). On both systems your license information stays saved, so if you reinstall later you will not need to activate again.
